Perito Moreno Glacier with entrance to Glaciares National Park from El Calafate

We will arrive at the imposing Perito Moreno Glacier, where we will have three hours of free time to explore the walkways. The distance from El Calafate to the glacier is 80 km, covered almost entirely by a paved road that crosses both the steppe and the mountainous region. From the beginning of the trip, we are surprised by beautiful landscapes.

Leaving the city, we will see Lake Argentino and its Redonda Bay to the right, a refuge for a great diversity of birds, such as black-necked swans, flamingos, steamer ducks, gulls, and cauquéns. The landscape is dominated by the vibrant yellow of the grasslands known as coirón, especially the white coirón and the petiso.

For the first 40 km, we will cross the Patagonian steppe until we reach the entrance to the National Park, where the vegetation changes to tree species of the Nothofagus family, such as ñires, guindos, and lengas. We will also find canelos and flowers of various colors, with the notro standing out for its intense red hue, typical of the Andean Patagonian Forest.

Upon arriving at the Perito Moreno Glacier, we will be awestruck by its majesty. We will walk along the walkways, which offer different perspectives of the immense ice wall. It is essential to follow the signs to always remain within the walkways, respecting the park's guidelines. The park rangers play a fundamental role in preserving the natural beauty and are available to provide useful information about the site.
