Our experience begins with a one-hour boat trip in front of the imposing North Face of the Perito Moreno Glacier. Departure is from Puerto Moreno, navigating through the Canal de los Témpanos. During the journey, you will be able to admire the enormous height and extent of the glacier, with the chance to witness the spectacular calving of ice blocks into the water. After the boat trip, we proceed to the upper parking area of ​​the glacier, where the guides will take us to the first observation deck. At this point, a detailed map of the walkways will be presented, along with explanations about the phenomenon of glacial calving, the characteristics of glaciers, and the flora and fauna of the region. We will have until 2 PM to explore the walkways if we choose to participate in the Moreno Spirit boat tour, or until 3 PM for those who do not take the boat tour. For those who choose the boat tour, the meeting point will be at 2 PM in the snack area of ​​the upper parking lot. From there, the guides will accompany us to the vehicle that will take us back to Puerto Moreno, where we can present our vouchers or purchase tickets. Visitors who do not participate in the boat tour must return to the upper parking lot by 3:15 PM. Departure for El Calafate is scheduled for 3:30 PM. The distance from El Calafate to the glacier is 80 km, covered almost entirely by a paved road that crosses both the steppe and the mountainous region. From the beginning of the trip, we are surprised by beautiful landscapes. Leaving the city, we will see Lake Argentino and its Redonda Bay to the right, a refuge for a great diversity of birds, such as black-necked swans, flamingos, steamer ducks, gulls, and cauquéns. The landscape is dominated by the vibrant yellow of the grasslands known as coirón, especially the white coirón and the petiso. For the first 40 km, we will cross the Patagonian steppe until we reach the entrance to the National Park, where the vegetation changes to tree species of the Nothofagus family, such as ñires, guindos, and lengas. We will also find canelos and flowers of various colors, with the notro standing out for its intense red hue, typical of the Andean Patagonian Forest. Upon arriving at the Perito Moreno Glacier, we will be awestruck by its majesty. We will walk along the walkways, which offer different perspectives of the immense ice wall. It is essential to follow the signs to always remain within the walkways, respecting the park&#39;s guidelines. There, we&#39;ll take a 30-minute hike through the Andean forest and Patagonian beaches. Upon returning to the boat, we&#39;ll have plenty of time for lunch (you&#39;re welcome to bring your own) as we continue our tour until we reach the front of the highest glacier in the National Park: the Spegazzini Glacier, 135 meters above lake level. Here, we&#39;ll pause to take photos and quietly contemplate this natural beauty. We will then sail to our final destination: the Perito Moreno Glacier, where it will be possible (if the service has been previously booked) to disembark at the walkways to end the day with an hour and a half of free time to visit this impressive landscape. The tour begins with a walk through a unique area where it&#39;s possible to observe fossils and petrified tree trunks, making it ideal for those who enjoy outdoor activities and have an adventurous spirit. A moderate level of physical fitness is required, as the route includes approximately 3 hours of walking intermittently on uneven terrain. We left El Calafate via Provincial Route No. 5, traveling 33 km eastward. Then, we headed north on National Route No. 40, covering another 67 km. Along the way, we could admire Lake Argentino, the Santa Cruz River, the La Leona River and its beautiful valley, as well as panoramic views of the Andes Mountains, including the imposing Mount Fitz Roy. We make a brief 15-minute stop at the historic Hotel La Leona before continuing west, skirting Lake Viedma for another 10 km. We then arrive at the foot of Cerro Los Hornos, at Estancia Santa Teresita, around 11:30 am. From this point, we have our first view of the impressive depression in the terrain where the petrified tree trunks are located. We begin our exploratory walk, during which we observe a large number of petrified tree trunks scattered across the surface, some with diameters of up to 1.20 meters. These trunks are evidence of a period when the climate was different and allowed for the development of abundant flora. Midway through the hike, we take a break for lunch. During the walk, it&#39;s also possible to occasionally find fossil remains of different types of dinosaurs. The area is protected from the wind by the natural depression in the terrain and by Cerro Los Hornos, offering a dry and generally pleasant climate, characteristic of the steppe zone.

With crampons already on, the hike begins by crossing the ice. The glacier tour lasts approximately 2 hours, during which you can observe ice formations, learn about the flora, fauna and glaciology of the region and better understand the famous Perito Moreno Glacier calving phenomenon. Then, you&#39;ll return to the refuge through the Magellanic Forest. There, you&#39;ll enjoy lunch (not included—you must bring your own food and drink) with a privileged view of the Perito Moreno Glacier. Next, the return crossing of Brazo Rico of Lake Argentino is completed, sailing in front of the glacier. Masters and his wife, the Estancia still preserves the essence of the history of this pioneering family, who transformed an inhospitable place into a true paradise. A visit to Estancia Cristina combines nature, adventure, history, and pleasure. After sailing, we begin an ascent in 4x4 vehicles to the Continental Ice Refuge, traveling 9.5 km along a mountain road that crosses a landscape of great geological interest, once covered by glaciers. During the ascent, we reach an elevation of 550 meters. Upon arriving at the refuge, we take a 20-minute walk through glacial erosion terrain, which leads us to the Upsala Glacier viewpoint. From this point, it is possible to contemplate a privileged view of the glacier front, Lake Guillermo, the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, and the Andes Mountains. Afterwards, we return to the Estancia in 4x4 vehicles. At the Estancia, we visited the Costumbrista Museum, housed in an old sheep-shearing shed, where the history of the property is told. Afterwards, we took a guided walk to the Caterina River and visited the chapel and the historic center of the Estancia. Among the activities, there is free time for lunch, which can be booked in advance or brought by the participants themselves.

Our &quot;Minitrekking&quot; tour on the Perito Moreno Glacier, an ancient glacier, will be complemented by a one-hour walk along the walkways. The excursion begins with pick-up from hotels in El Calafate on a regular bus, which will take us to the Bajo de las Sombras port, located about 6 km before the main viewpoint of the glacier. From there, we will embark on an approximately 20-minute boat trip across Lake Rico to the southwest coast, opposite the southern wall of the Perito Moreno Glacier. After disembarking, we will proceed to a refuge where the guides will organize the groups, composed of up to 20 people. The trek begins with a walk of about 20 minutes along the lake shore until we reach the edge of the ice. At this point, the guides will help us put on our crampons and teach us how to move safely on the ice. The walk on the glacier lasts about 2 hours and allows us to explore various ice formations, such as fissures, seracs, sinkholes, and small lagoons. Although the surface is uneven, it is firm and safe, making the hike moderate and accessible. During the trek, guides will provide detailed explanations about the local flora, fauna, and glaciology, as well as the unique phenomenon that occurs in the glacier and can lead to its famous rupture. At the end of the trek, we will return to the refuge via a trail that crosses the lush Magellanic Forest.
