The Doge's Palace in Genoa is hosting a new international exhibition dedicated to the Flemish artist Anthony Van Dyck, who owes part of his artistic development to Genoa itself. 

On display are over 50 works from Europe’s largest and most prestigious museums, including the Louvre in Paris, the Prado and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid, and the National Gallery in London, as well as Italian institutions such as the Uffizi Gallery, the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan, and the Royal Museums of Turin, as well as international foundations and collections. 

Standouts among these include two early self-portraits, portraits of elegant Genoese, Antwerpian, and English ladies, and works commissioned by King Charles I of England.

Not far from Porta Soprana, the best-known gate of the ancient walls of Genoa, is the Casa di Colombo (Christopher Columbus House) where the discoverer of the Americas lived in his youth. 

According to archival documents, Domenico Colombo, father of the great navigator, moved to the house in Genoa in 1455, when Christopher was four years old. The ground floor of the house was used as a workshop; a wooden beam divides it from the upper floor, where the rooms for private use were located.
