Danube Bend - Esztergom, Visegrád and Szentendre
Danube Bend - a tour through Hungarian history. This is an unforgettable journey along the "Blue Danube" with stops in Esztergom, Visegrád, and Szentendre.
Esztergom: Formerly the capital of Hungary, it remains the center of the Catholic Church. We visited Hungary's largest cathedral (also the burial place of famous cardinals, such as Primate József Mindszenty). Then we crossed the river into Slovakia and enjoyed the view from the Basilica.
Visegrád: After the Mongol invasion, a new fortification was built here in the mid-13th century. The hilltop offers a fascinating panorama of the Danube Valley. After enjoying the view, there's the opportunity for lunch (not included in the price).
Szentendre: A small Baroque town built on medieval ruins, located at the gateway to the Danube Bend, the town is considered the Village of Artists or the City of Painters. We walked through the historic center and enjoyed the narrow cobblestone streets and Baroque houses. After the guided tour, you can also visit some museums (for example, the famous Margit Kovács Ceramics Museum or the Confectionery Museum with marzipan figures).
Notes:
Meeting point: Cityrama / Gray Line Hungary Tourist Office, Báthory utca 19, 1054 Budapest (near the Parliament)
Please present your printed receipt.
The boat service between Szentendre and Budapest is available from May to September 17 (weekends only). In case of water shortages and during winter, we return to Budapest by bus.
