Minho Tour - Braga and Guimarães
Price from
$99.79 per person
This exciting journey begins in Braga, the capital of Minho, and then we'll explore the historic city of Guimarães. Join us to explore two of Portugal's most historically significant cities!
Our tour begins in Braga. Along the way, you'll enjoy a verdant landscape of mountains, valleys, and rivers. Braga is a deeply religious city, and this guided tour allows you to visit Portugal's oldest cathedral and the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus (UNESCO).
Later, we'll visit the Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary, one of the highlights of this tour. Famous for its endless staircases and baroque details, this place is sure to impress! Not only a religious monument, but also a truly romantic and relaxing spot, with stunning views of the city. Here, nature is privileged and lovingly protected.
Now it's time to visit the magnificent Braga Cathedral, a monument that combines three distinct styles: Romanesque, Manueline, and Baroque. It's the oldest cathedral in Portugal—it was even built several decades before the country's founding! Without a doubt, this imposing cathedral is Braga's greatest landmark.
We'll tour Braga's historic center and discover some of the city's most important streets and gardens, such as the Santa Barbára Garden, considered by many to be one of the most beautiful in Portugal.
We will take a break in the historic center of Braga to enjoy a delicious traditional lunch (not included).
After lunch, we'll head to Guimarães, the birthplace of Portugal and a World Heritage Site since 2001. This was the birthplace of Portugal's first king, Afonso Henriques. Guimarães' history is intertwined with the founding of Portugal's national identity and the Portuguese language.
We'll have the opportunity to enter and explore Guimarães Castle, a 10th-century national symbol. From the outside, its medieval structure is impressive; from the inside, we can enjoy stunning views of the city. Next, we'll continue past the Palace of the Dukes of Braganza and the Church of São Miguel.
Admire the imposing statue of D. Afonso Henriques and stroll through Martins Sarmento Square. To finish this short walking tour, you'll discover Santa Maria Street, the City Hall, Santiago Square, and the Church of Senhora da Oliveira.
Guimarães is an authentic example of the evolution of a medieval city throughout history!
