Description

Stonehenge, located on Salisbury Plain, is a World Heritage Site, a Bronze Age megalithic alignment. It is the most frequented and well-known British stone circle, and its origin and function are still unknown to this day, but it is thought to have been used for astronomical, magical or religious studies.

The average Stonehenge sarsen weighs 25 tons. 2.13m of Stone 56, the tallest standing stone on site, is buried underground - in total it measures 8.71 meters from base to tip. The blue stones traveled 240km to Wiltshire from south Wales, probably by boat. Around 1,500 Roman objects have been found at Stonehenge. Coins, pins, jewelry and pottery fragments are just some of the objects found. They were not just left by Roman tourists, but are thought to have been left by people visiting Stonehenge as a sanctuary - large pits were also excavated within the monument at this time.

Bath is known for its three springs that supply its thermal springs. The city is said to have been founded as a result of the Romans discovering miraculously healing water in the area. For the wealthy, it served as a thermal complex from the Elizabethan to the Georgian era.
