Description

Sabará was the first settlement in Minas Gerais and is a land of peaceful and welcoming people. The city welcomes people who want to renew their faith in 18th century churches or to enjoy the tranquility and famous gastronomic festivals. Its sumptuous churches are richly decorated and feature works by great Baroque and Rococo artists, such as master Aleijadinho. Its Historic Center is an open-air museum with a very well-preserved collection, which clearly demonstrates the transformation of the city during the Gold Cycle. The city holds two popular gastronomic festivals annually: the Jabuticaba Festival and the Ora-pro-nóbis Festival. And it also has a strong artisanal production, represented mainly by Palma Barroca and Renda Turca de Bicos.

Congonhas: Located 70 km from Belo Horizonte, in the Alto Paraopeba region, Congonhas receives tourists from various parts of Brazil and the world to enjoy the great work of the baroque artist Antônio Francisco Lisboa, better known as Aleijadinho. At the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus de Matozinhos, master Aleijadinho carved the famous life-size images of twelve prophets in soapstone. Another attraction of Congonhas are the six chapels that make up Jardim dos Passos in front of the Basilica, representing the Via Sacra with beautiful cedar images also made by Aleijadinho. For all its richness and grandeur, this complex was listed by UNESCO as a Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
