Description
Let's visit Congonhas, which is located 70 km from Belo Horizonte, in the Alto Paraopeba region. Congonhas receives tourists from various parts of Brazil and the world to enjoy the great work of the baroque artist Antônio Francisco Lisboa, better known as Aleijadinho. At the Bom Jesus de Matozinhos Sanctuary, master Aleijadinho carved the famous life-size images of twelve prophets in soapstone.
Another attraction of Congonhas are the six chapels that make up Jardim dos Passos in front of the Basilica, representing the Via Sacra with beautiful cedar images also made by Aleijadinho. For all its richness and grandeur, this complex was listed by UNESCO as a Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Congonhas Museum (MG)
Opened in December 2015, the Congonhas Museum is one of the most important memory preservation projects in the country. Housed in a 3,452.30 m² building, built next to the Sanctuary, based on a project by architect Gustavo Penna, winner national competition, has three floors containing the exhibition hall, library, auditorium, studio, educational space, cafeteria, open-air amphitheater and administrative areas.
The Museum was created to enhance the perception and interpretation of the multiple dimensions of the Santuário do Bom Jesus de Matozinhos, a historical site that, since 1985, has been awarded the title of World Cultural Heritage. As its main theme is the Sanctuary - an open-air world heritage site - it will function as a “site museum”, qualifying the irreplaceable experience of “being in the place”, intensifying the senses and perception, whether through descriptions, interpretations or creation of favorable conditions for the enjoyment of this heritage.
We will also visit the friendly city of Tiradentes, located at the foot of the Serra São José, part of the land that hundreds of kilos of gold were extracted during the gold cycle in Brazil. The city today is a true open-air museum as it carefully preserves its historic center, fountains, buildings, chapels and churches. These characteristics give it a bucolic and romantic aspect, attracting many couples and families to the place. Tour in Congonhas and Tiradentes is sure to offer a rich tourist, cultural and envy-inducing landscape!
