Learn about four generations of a Louisiana Creole family, both free and enslaved, as you hear their personal, intimate stories. Explore the complex and misunderstood history of the people, language, culture, and social contexts of Louisiana’s Great River Road in the tumultuous years before, during, and following the American Civil War. Step inside the austere interior of a slave cabin from the 1840s, and see the stark contrast to the parlors and rooms in the Big House. There's an eye-opening exhibition on the working conditions of the enslaved community that also lived here.
