Whenever someone mentions the great masters of Dutch painting, they're most likely referring to Rembrandt van Rijn or Vincent van Gogh (or both). They are some of the greatest Dutch artists of all time. And although their lives were centuries apart, their works are more similar than you might think.
The Van Gogh & Rembrandt exhibition in Amsterdam tells the story of the relationship between the two painters, how Van Gogh was fascinated by Rembrandt and even inspired by him. The story is told through Van Gogh's letters to his brother (recited in English), as well as artworks by both artists.
Van Gogh and Rembrandt in Amsterdam is an immersive experience that will leave you mesmerized. A story told through light and sound, it is the first son-et-lumière (light and sound) show on this scale to be presented inside a national monument.
The show uses the entire interior of the Noorderkerk, from walls to rim, as a stage, creating a 360° moving canvas. Inside the church, you'll find yourself surrounded by sunflowers, angels, and flowers, as you experience Vincent van Gogh's admiration for Rembrandt van Rijn.
The story unfolds around you, as you lounge on the comfortable beanbags or stroll through the church. You'll see and hear how Van Gogh found inspiration in the paintings, prints, and vistas of the great master Rembrandt.
