Located 32 km northeast of Punta Arenas, in the Strait of Magellan, Magdalena Island is a must-see for animal lovers, home to the largest penguin colony on the mainland. This island has been a protected area since 1982, when it was renamed 'Momento Natural Los Pinguinos'. It boasts a fascinating ecosystem, with over 60,000 pairs of penguins that come to breed during the summer, as well as other bird species such as cormorants and Andean gulls.
We'll arrive at the island after a 40-minute sail. After disembarking, you'll have about an hour to stroll around and take photos. Visitors can complete the visit by heading to the environmental interpretation center, 'O Farol,' where information is provided on the history of the strait and the ecological richness of the islands.
