Konigssee is the Salt Mine
Konigsee (King's Lake) and Salzbergwerk (salt mines)
The emerald-green Königssee, near Berchtesgaden, is surrounded by steep rock walls, with the 1,800-meter-high eastern wall of the Watzmann Lake towering above its western shore. About eight kilometers long and over a kilometer wide at its widest point, and with a depth of up to 190 meters, the lake occupies the entire valley between the Watzmann Lake to the west and the Jenner and Gotzenberg Lakes to the east. This jewel of the Bavarian Alps is a haven of peace.
