Description
In Olinda, a city declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982, we'll have an unforgettable visit. Surrounded by palm trees, tall coconut palms, the Atlantic Forest, and the ocean in the background, we'll cherish its centuries-old churches, such as the Monastery of São Bento, an important part of our itinerary.
We'll stroll along Rua do Amparo, home to renowned artists' studios, and Largo da Misericórdia. At the city's highest point, Alto da Sé, we'll enjoy viewpoints with endless horizons.
Next, in Recife, we'll explore the Recife Antigo neighborhood, where the city began. We'll disembark at Arsenal, the neighborhood's second most important square. We can visit the Embassy of Pernambuco (optional) to learn more about the rich and diverse culture of Pernambuco's Carnival. We'll stroll along Rua do Bom Jesus and find the Embaixada dos Bonecos Gigantes (optional), home to the famous puppets that liven up Pernambuco's Carnival, and, for those who wish, the Kahal Zur Israel Synagogue, the first in the Americas.
We'll continue to Praça do Rio Branco, better known as Praça do Marco Zero, where we'll admire the square's beautiful architectural ensemble and enjoy a panoramic view of the Francisco Brennand Sculpture Park, a veritable open-air museum. We'll also visit the Pernambuco Handicraft Center, with its extensive array of works produced by the state's master artisans.
The tour includes a pleasant walk through the main streets of the charming neighborhood, where we will see the architecture and old buildings, learning about the rich local history, including the beautiful Igreja da Madre de Deus, located on the banks of the Capibaribe River.
