Rome is one of Europe’s biggest tourist attractions, largely due to its history, intriguing landmarks and beautiful architecture. It also offers some of the best food and drink, and a huge number of cultural events to enjoy.
However, Rome is the fourth most visited city in the world, as it is a historical, artistic and cultural city with much to offer, not only to its visitors but also to its residents. Its impressive ancient ruins, churches and museums have produced world-famous figures.
1. St. Peter's Square
St. Peter's Square is the world-famous square in Vatican City, and its centerpiece is a large Egyptian obelisk, which was moved there in 1878. Since then, the obelisk has been surrounded by fountains and sculptures depicting biblical scenes.
2. Colosseum
The amphitheater located in Rome is one of the oldest and most famous coliseums in the world, and was built to host gladiator games, animal fights and executions for more than four centuries before being taken out of use during the Christian era, when Christianity expanded throughout Europe, including Italy.
3. Vittoriano Monument
The Vittoriano Monument is a masterpiece of Italian Renaissance architecture that was completed in 1586, and is located in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, Rome's main square and one of its busiest transportation hubs.
4. Arch of Constantine
Located at the foot of the Palatine Hill, the Arch of Constantine is one of Rome's best-known monuments, and was erected to commemorate Emperor Constantine's victory over his rival, Maxentius.
5. Pantheon
The Pantheon is the first building erected by the Romans, and was built during the reign of Emperor Augustus, and says a lot about how their society evolved. In contrast to these ancient structures, it is still one of the most visited monuments in Rome after the Vatican.

Founded in 1732, the Trevi Fountain is one of Rome’s most popular and iconic landmarks, and is one of the city’s few free attractions. However, tourists from all over the world come to visit this great work of art from all over Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia.

Founded in 1626, St. Peter's Basilica is a church that has been used for many different purposes and has become one of the most visited attractions by tourists. However, the site was originally built as a burial place for Caesar, but it has since become an important site for Catholics.
8. Castel Sant'Angelo
Castel Sant'Angelo is a monument in Rome that was built to be an imposing residence and defensive point for the emperor.
9. Capitoline Museum
The Capitoline Museum is one of the oldest museums in the world, housing many famous pieces. The collection spans approximately 11.000 years from classical antiquity to the Middle Ages and includes statues, reliefs, sarcophagi, mosaics from early Christian basilicas, and manuscripts.
10. Roman Forum
The Roman Forum was the heart of Rome, as all important decisions were made there and the Romans used it for public meetings, as a market and for religious purposes.
